Mature Performances

Big congratulations on the performance of two of our runners over the weekend.

Alun Evans ran in the Richard Sorbrook Challenge and took 8th place overall and 2nd in his age category.

Keith Thompson ran in the Hereford Half Marathon taking 20th place overall and 1st in his age category.

Well done boys showing off the vest at its best.

Ladies Day

Rhondda Valley Hillbillies rock up at Porthkerry Plod.  What a first race for the new members to cut their teeth on.

A good flat start towards the pebbled beach area then a heart pounding climb through the forestry up onto the caravan park and if they thought this hill was tough wait for the next.

Back down through a quiet lane to the park area before the next climb.  I think there was some bad language echoed around the park on this one – can’t think why.

Everyone finished with smiles on their faces (or perhaps grimaces).

Some snaps from the race here.

May Staggered

A marvellous May staggered held on a beautiful (at last) spring evening.  Twenty one members ran and 2 guests.  It was a first time staggered for runners from the beginners running group and they all put in an incredible effort.  They are:  Jessica, Jean, Emma, Janice, Michelle and Gemma.  Well done girls.

First, second and third places also dominated by the girls with Jessica Reeves taking first, Tracy Evans second and Jean Gardner taking third.

Come on men you need to man up.

See the results here.

Marathon Mania

Great weekend for Rhondda Valley Runners with regard to Marathons.  We had 3 members representing us in the Llanelli Marathon, they were: Alun Evans, Carl Seaman and Andrew Ellison and we had 1 member representing us at the London Marathon, Tracy Edwards.

All achieved personal bests.

See their results here and some photographs here.

April Staggered

The Easter Staggered welcomed some new runners to the race: Clair Long, Lisa Burnell and Ryan Tyler and all put in a top effort.

The race was quite challenging: squally winds and lots of local wild fires meant that it was a smoked filled evening with lots of ash wafting around.

But dusting the ashes off to take the race honours and a first ever staggered win was Michelle Griffiths.  Followed by Carl and Alun to take second and third.

Well done all.

Results here.

Rhayader 20

Well done Andrew taking on round the lakes in squalid conditions.  I believe the meteorological conditions were a little challenging.

Hail, snow and rain for most of the race I’m guessing would have inhibited your views of the stunningly beautiful scenery.

Raising the Bar

Well done to Tracy Evans.  She really has hit the ground running for the first month of the year.  January 2013 her first ever 100 mile month.

You’ve set yourself a benchmark now Tracy and with February being a short month – can she go further.  (Yes she can).

2012 Review

What an ending to 2012.  We were out in numbers for the Nos Galan New Year’s Eve race with 10 RVR’s representing.  The second popular race of the year was the Cardiff Half Marathon where there were 22 RVR’s out.

We definitely improved on 2011 with a combination of 31 runners in 179 races.  The most races competition went to the wire this year and Andrew and Tracy pushed it to the very last race, Andrew with 31 and Tracy with 30.

For the first time in a long while we had 3 ladies competing for the club championship.  The winners are Amy Edwards, Rachel Garland-Fry and Tracy Edwards.

The men’s club championship was very well fought this year and three new comers to the club took the honours.  The winners are Keith Thompson, Craig Morris and Paul Jasper.

The staggered race was almost dominated by the ladies but Clive put an end to that.  The winners are Tracy Edwards, Clive Denton and Kate Amos.

There was quite a genre of races this year: road, trail, fell and some runners ventured into duathlons and triathlons – all healthy for the continuous growth of the club.

Another good year competing in the Rack Raid and for the first time we entered 4 teams into the Cosmeston Relays – let’s hope we can build on these two team events for 2013.

A BIG thanks to all our new members this year.  Some of which have come through the beginners running session and for this we thank Lee Davies of the Dragons Running Club.

Let’s do our best to build on our membership and this year to support the return of the Rhondda Fun Run.

Have a great 2013 everyone.

December Staggered

Another staggered season over and a very cold and festive end it was with most of the girls bobbing around the streets in silly Santa hats.

Alun took the honours on the night followed by the girls Anita, Leona and Tracy.  (Must be the new aftershave he is wearing).

The final result is first place Tracy, second place Clive and third place Kate Amos.

Virgin London Marathon 2013

And the lucky winner of the club place is Craig Morris.  Forget Christmas fun Craig, get training.  Make sure there is plenty of running kit on your Santa list.
